Special Events
The Foundation has created interest in the community with fun fund raising through the years. The longest running -- and most popular -- is the annual Barger Golf Outing.
Founder and first president of the Foundation in 1984, Doris Barger always delighted participants with her traditional golf cart tour during play. Her energy supporting our local hospital has not wavered for over 30 years and the annual Barger Golf Outing truly reflects her spirit. This tournament has raised more than $550,000. Community members vie for foursomes and area businesses and organizations are generous sponsors. Doris Barger passed away at age 93 on August 19, 2016, and left a tremendous legacy of commitment to her community.
Events for Community Support
The golf tournament and other activities like “Dancing With the Sierra Stars,” which showcased local talent for several years, are essential elements of any Foundation capital campaign. People enjoy having a good time while doing something they know benefits their community. Those drawn to participate in or attend our fund raisers often become dedicated supporters of the Foundation
