Doris Barger & The Barger Family
Doris Barger grew up in Milton on a ranch which her family had owned since the late 1880s. She returned to Calaveras County when she and her husband Dick retired to Murphys in 1977. They met as youngsters and both attended Stanford University. The Bargers married on her 21st birthday and moved throughout Northern California and Oregon with their two sons Walt and Steve as Dick pursued his career as an executive in the paper industry. Isabel and Ray Neilsen were known for their selfless dedication to the Calaveras community. They donated their time and resources to the betterment of those around them. He served for many years on the board of directors of Mark Twain Hospital and the Calaveras County Water District. Isabel was a hospital volunteer for decades. Read More...

The Nelson Estate Launches Grateful Patients Program
The estate of Angelina M. Nelson and Carl Robert (Bob) Nelson is the first to contribute to the Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation through the new Grateful Patients Program. Their gift of $365,000 will go towards new equipment and to the Pulmonary Program at the San Andreas campus of Mark Twain Medical Center. Read More...

John B. Blazin
John B. Blazin was one of the founders and president of the original Mark Twain Hospital Foundation. He was yardmaster for Southern Pacific Railroad for 40 years before he retired to Avery in 1980 with his wife Margaret. He was a generous supporter of the Foundation and left a gift upon his passing in 2001 which has supported numerous hospital projects through the years. Read More...
